The service was founded by the creator of the news app Summly, which bought Yahoo in 2013.
Joining Twitter is mentioned on the startup’s website. The parties do not disclose the amount of the transaction.
Sphere was founded by Nick D’Aloisio. In 2013, at the age of 17, Nick D’Aloisio created the Summly news app and sold it to Yahoo for $30 million.
In 2019, the Financial Times wrote that Sphere had raised at least $30 million during its existence, including $20 million in 2018 and $11.8 million in 2017.
Twitter confirmed to TechCrunch the information about the purchase of the service. Next month Sphere will complete work on a standalone application. The startup does not disclose the number of users of the application.
