Twitter for the first time will reset the number of subscribers of the us administration accounts when they are transferred to the new Cabinet.
According to the publication Axios, the short message service Twitter for the first time will reset the number of subscribers of the accounts of the US administration (WhiteHouse, LaCasaBlanca, POTUS, VP, PressSec and Flotus) when they are transferred from the administration of the current US President Donald trump to his successor Joe Biden. The old administration accounts will be saved in the service archive under the changed names, for example, WhiteHouse45.
The transfer of accounts will take place on the day of the inauguration on January 20, 2021. During this procedure, Twitter will warn all subscribers of the administration about archiving their current accounts and invite them to re-subscribe to the accounts of the new administration.
The new US administration will get accounts without subscribers and will actually start from scratch. Now the official account of the us President has more than 33 million subscribers, and the official account of the White house has about 26 million subscribers. If users want to subscribe to these accounts again, they will have to do it themselves.
Earlier in 2016, when the accounts were transferred from the Obama administration to the trump administration, all subscribers were transferred to the new account owners without deletion.
Twitter did not give a reason why the company will not do so this time. According to the Wall Street Journal, this is due to the fact that when transferring subscribers from the Obama administration and to Trump, Twitter faced technical failures in its system, as well as a certain number of complaints from users of the service.
