TikTok owner starts work on Clubhouse analog for China — Reuters

In the country, Clubhouse is officially blocked.

The development of the service from the Chinese ByteDance (owner of TikTok) is at an initial stage, sources familiar with the matter told Reuters. The company declined to comment.
Chinese authorities blocked access to the Clubhouse voice social network in February 2021. As a result, many clone services appeared in the country, and at least 12 such applications were launched in a month, the agency notes.
Among the developers is Xiaomi, which has updated its Mi Talk app. The company turned it into an invitation-only audio service aimed at professionals, the newspaper writes.
Reuters suggests that the Chinese versions are likely to work with local specifics – with censorship and state supervision.
