Much More Than Your Grandmother’s Motorhome

We all know about the traditional motorhome and other styles of traditional travel vehicles. From travel trailers to diesel pushers, if you were to jump on any interstate in American and drive for an hour you would probably pass by 100’s of travel vehicles. But now there is a new kid in town, a new form of RV that may not be as recognizable and because of such has many people talking. From showrooms to campgrounds this new RV is making a strong appearance; introducing the Park Model, an RV for a new kind of traveler.

Based on their appearance, one may think our 16th President may live in a Park Model RV as it is they very much resemble a log cabin. These delightful, cabin-like RV’s measure up very well to traditional RVs in size and include many of the same amenities including a kitchen, bedroom and sitting area. The Park Model option allow individuals not wishing to camp in a tent but sans an RV to enjoy the appeal of a community campground.

Reservations have been up since last winter at campgrounds across the country. As RV parks and campgrounds struggle to stay competitive and attract a wider crowd to stay with them, they are seeing the Park Model as an added amenity. Damon Corp., Cavco and CrossRoads RV are all manufacturing Park RVs for KOAs and Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park Camp-Resorts. Forest River is another company that offers a full line-up of Park RVs to compliment their current RV manufacturing divisions.

The Barn Yard, an Amish influenced company out of Pennsylvania proudly handcrafts 6 different versions of Park Model RV’s. The 6 versions include log, vinyl, lap siding and more. Depending on the model, these RV’s range from $20,000 to $60,000.

Once these models are delivered, they are ready to go. All they need is to be attached to water and electricity. East of San Diego, Sacred Rocks Reserve and RV Park is going solar with their models. Energy savings run from 25-75% off utility bills.

With a goal to provide for all kinds of customers, Forest River is a manufacturer that not only builds a high volume of park models but also continues to build traditional vehicles like motorhomes, 5th wheels and travel trailers. Park Models are becoming more and more popular each year but this does not necessarily decrease the demand for the traditional RV from the more traditional traveler. Many still long for the road and the ability to literally take their home with them.

With a very real concern for the environment as well as an interest in attracting a younger traveling crowd, RV manufacturers are making their RV’s more affordable as well as more “Green.” These Green features include lightweight towables, solar powered charging systems and overall increased fuel efficiency.

Many of the parks that have been around for decades are shocking many of the travelers by updating their amenities and features. Now, it is not at all uncommon to be able to enjoy fitness centers, swimming pools, dog walks, bocce ball, horseshoes, hot tubs and more all while on the campground property. Plus for those who enjoy a good party, many campgrounds include reception halls and restaurants.
