Learn how to potty train your puppy in a few easy steps. If you are going to train a puppy to inside be prepared with wee wee pads before your puppy comes home, and have a permanent place for your dog to use them. If you are going to train a puppy to go outside do not start training them inside on papers you will only have to retrain them later.
You do need to know that your new puppy will have “accidents” inside where they are not supposed to go. When this does happen, and it will, have them smell what they did and then take them to the proper place for them to do their business. Make sure that the mess gets cleaned up quickly and entirely, or you risk them going back to that spot again.
While you are getting the hang of how to potty train a puppy keep them on a feeding schedule. Always feed them at the same time and put them on their pad or take them outside when they are done eating. Water, should be left out all day and only taken up about two hours before bedtime. Whenever your puppy is done drinking take them to their bathroom place.
Never play with your puppy if you just brought them to their potty place, they need to know why they are there. If they don’t do their business right away be patient wait awhile and bring them away but be sure to bring them back in a short time. When you see your puppy smelling around the house there is a good chance that they have to go to the bathroom.
When you are learning how to potty train a puppy you need to know when they will have to go to the bathroom. You should take them out after a nap, after a playing session, as soon as you get up in the morning, last thing at night, and whenever you hear or see them getting restless.
When you have to leave our puppy alone and you don’t want to keep them in a dog crate, you will have to have a place that is easy to clean up in case they have an accident. You may need to get a plastic gate to put across a doorway, if you are doing indoor potty training put them in the room with the pads. Always take your dog out as soon as you get home.
Learning how to potty train a puppy is not hard but it is necessary for a happy life with your dog. This is a time consuming job but you will have a friend for life.
