If you’re just learning how to play Counter Strike online and you’re still pretty green, know that you’re going to take your lumps in the beginning. Even if you’ve played other PvP shooters out there, CS is one of the toughest when it comes to the majority of the competition out there. There are people who’ve been playing the game since its release, so beware.
But nevertheless, Valve created one of the finest online shooters of all time with this game, one of the most well balanced, and once you get into the groove, you’ll be able to fully appreciate the depth and variety that this game offers. Here are a few tips for first timers to get into the game.
Find a Playstyle You Can Master
Not everyone can pull off split second head shots. The fact of the matter is that the older you get, the slower your reaction time. This is just fact. No matter how well practiced you are, a thirty year old player is rarely going to best a sixteen year old in a quick draw. If you have trouble with head shots, experiment with different styles. Try sneaking around corners to get in close with the shotgun, setting up ambushes, or working primarily as support to your team’s top dog. Find your place in the team, find your personal style, the strategies and tactics that work best for you, and master them the way only you can.
Know Who To Listen To
If someone is calling you a noob and so on and so forth, they’re usually just upset that you killed them using a style they’re unaccustomed to. On the other hand, if a team member is actually giving you helpful advice, LISTEN TO THEM. Everyone wants to be the big shot when they join in the game, but if you’re still kind a rookie, you need all the help you can get.
The Best Weapon is a Good Teammate
Teamwork is the core of winning in any of these games, and CS is no exception. If you want to kill more and die less, then make sure that you’re treating your teammates right. You watch their backs and they’ll watch yours (well, more often than not, there are always the self-obsessed geeks out there that are more interested in glory than in victory). It’s just like in sports: Don’t be a ball hog. Don’t steal other people’s kills, try to keep friendly fire to a minimum, and always respect input from your teammates, because lone wolves don’t make it very far in the team based modes.
Now, again, the skill ladder gets pretty tough. Don’t expect to be playing in top rank servers on your first week of play. Find people at your own skill level, but keep challenging yourself. Don’t just waste scrubs all day, that’s too easy. Play with people who are on the same level as yourself, play for fun, and enjoy yourself, win or lose. Be a good sportsman, because why bother playing games if they just tick you off?
