Are you considering trying to lose some weight? If so, you’re not alone, plenty of people are right before summer hits. The problem is, it’s not exactly easy to do, you’ll have to make sure you really want this and stay motivated enough to stick to it.

If however you are motivated and you’re just wondering what the next steps are, here are a few things that will help you to shed those pounds so you can start looking better:

Lift Some Weights

A lot of people don’t realize it, but lifting heavy weights can actually aid your weight loss. The more muscle you build, the more effort it will take your body to maintain that muscle and thus the more calories you’ll burn while at rest. Actually performing the weight lifting burns calories as well and the more muscle you have, the better you will look.

Exercise A Bit

Of course you’re also going to need to hit the treadmill or elliptical to lose that weight. You need to make sure you burn off more calories than you use while you’re at rest. This is called creating a caloric deficit, and unless you are able to do this, you will not lose anything. Just make sure you do cardio at least 3 times a week for 30 or 45 minutes.

If you find that you’re not losing weight all of a sudden, you’ll be able to either up the intensity of the exercise or just do more of it in order to break your weight loss barrier. Just make sure that when you do the cardio that it’s done after you lift weights, otherwise you’ll be too tired.

Eat Well

Now when I say eat well, I mean you’ve got to eat complex carbohydrates, lean protein and healthy fats. You can’t only do this though, you have to eat them in the right portions and you must make sure you’re in a caloric deficit as well.

If you’re a guy, make sure you’re taking in around 1500 calories each day. As a woman, you can make this number around 1200. You can change this over time if you encounter barriers, but it’s a good starting point. Make sure you’re eating foods like brown rice, oatmeal, chicken and nuts.

If you keep doing the above, you should see yourself getting healthier and see your waistline trim up.
