The company invited employees to test the devices and give feedback.
The Google watch has a round shape. Like the Apple Watch, they will record steps, monitor health indicators and are equipped with a heart rate monitor, Insider writes, citing sources and internal documents of the company. Google declined to comment on the information.
Internally, the watch is called Pixel Watch and “Android Watch”, and executives use different names for the project, so it’s unclear what the device will be called when it enters the market.
In 2021, the company accelerated work on the device and invited employees to test it and give feedback. The last time the company collected feedback from “testers” was in November.
The watch may go on sale in the spring of 2022 if “the last round of testing is successful.” But the timing may vary depending on the feedback from employees testing the device, sources said.
Google’s intentions to release the Pixel Watch wearable devices became known in 2019. In November 2019, the company acquired the manufacturer of fitness trackers and smart watches Fitbit for $2.1 billion.
