The European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) warns that the situation with Covid-19 carries high risks of the rapid spread of a new strain of SARS-CoV-2. The British strain can quickly spread in those regions where the epidemiological situation has recently improved, including in Latvia, according to the CDC of Latvia.
In Latvia, five cases of infection with the new strain of the virus have been identified so far, and last week there was a slight decrease in the incidence of Covid-19, but the CDC indicates that the incidence should become much lower for the situation to be under control.
“It is important for all residents of Latvia to continue to responsibly comply with all the security measures established in the country, which are aimed at maintaining social distance,” the specialists of the CPPC point out.
Opening stores and studying full-time are associated with additional risks, as they increase the movement of people and contacts in public places, including public transport. “This allows new strains of the coronavirus to spread faster and will cause another spike in the incidence of the disease. At the current levels of morbidity, Latvia can no longer afford it” ” the CDC said.
The European structures recommended that the EU member states particularly closely monitor the epidemiological situation. A new strain of SARS-CoV-2 is already spreading locally in some countries. The experience of these countries shows that the spread of a new strain increases the burden on the health system and significantly increases the number of deaths. The ECDC recommends that you follow standard precautions and refrain from making minor trips abroad.
