Chinese automaker Geely will start producing its own smartphones

Geely founder Eric Lee has created a subsidiary company Hubei Xingji Shidai Technology, writes CNBC. It has already signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the Wuhan Economic and Technical Development Zone for the production of mobile phones .
The company’s headquarters will be located in Wuhan. She will focus on “integrating global technologies and resources to develop premium smart devices, including smartphones.”
Geely did not say under which brand the smartphones will be released and when their production will begin, but said that the devices will complement its automotive business.
According to the publication, the company will have to compete with Apple, Samsung and Xiaomi in the category of premium smartphones.
There is a close connection between smartphone software technologies and technologies in the cabins of smart cars, Eric Lee noted. In his opinion, the main trend in the future is the creation of “cross-border user ecosystems”
