Beer, Bait And Beaches In Flagler

Flagler Beach is a small town located on the Palm Coast of Florida. This Atlantic fishing town is home to about 5,000 year round residents and has an economy deeply rooted in fishing and tourism. Flagler is situated between Daytona Beach and St. Augustine and was first incorporated in 1925 as a tiny fishing village. Since then, the town has grown into a unique seaside community which retains much of its old Florida charm.

Flagler maintains six miles of beaches which are uncrowded for the majority of the year. Along with the beaches, amazing fishing spots are to be found there, including the Flagler Beach Municipal Pier. The Pier is one of the more well known spots for fishing in the area. The initial pier was built in 1927, soon after the city was incorporated. The pier has been extended over time and at one point allowed fishermen and tourists to stroll 1,000 feet out to sea. Storms and endless battering by the Atlantic have reduced the span to its current day 806 feet.

Fishing from the pier is permitted and encouraged, but a fishing license will have to be bought. They are accessible from the bait shop which is prominently located on the pier.

On the other side of the state, on the long swath of white sand beach known as the Emerald Coast, is Seagrove Beach. This town started its creation as an extremely remote family property accessible by a single road. With the exception of a few cottages and a small beach rental, Seagrove Beach was undeveloped and left to the Florida wilds.

Since that generation, Seagrove Beach has begun development and become a major spot for those who would like to see what Old Florida was like during romantic getaways on the Emerald Coast and for guests interested in fishing and getting out into nature.

For those who enjoy fishing in the backwaters, Seagrove Beach is one of the best spots on the Emerald Coast. Kayak rentals are available, and fishing from a kayak is one of the more unique ways to explore parts of the coast that are inaccessible to larger fishing vessels. Red Fish and trout are species commonly found in the flats.

For more traditional fishermen, red fish, flounder, and speckled trout are effortlessly caught in the Coctawatchee Bay with light tackle. Charters available in Seagrove, particularly Smiling Fish Charters can lead tourists on a variety of fishing excursions into the bay.

For individuals who are not as excited about fishing and just want to get out on the water, Smiling Fish also has Choctawatchee Bay and River Wildlife Photo Safari and a sunset cruise. This opportunity is outstanding for family and friends who simply want to explore the Emerald Coast and its natural splendor as the sun goes down.
