The new iPad Pro will have a glass back panel, while the iPad mini will have narrower screen borders, sources say
Apple plans to release the new iPad Pro in 2022, and the iPad mini-at the end of 2021, writes Bloomberg, citing knowledgeable sources.
The new iPad Pro will have a glass back panel, while the iPad mini will have narrower screen borders. The developers also tested the removal of the “Home” button.
The glass back panel in the iPad Pro was installed to enable wireless charging. Apple added wireless charging for the iPhone in 2017, and updated it with the MagSafe magnetic system in 2020. It provided a stable charging speed.
To develop the next iPad Pro, Apple is trying out reverse wireless charging technology. Users will be able to charge their iPhone or other devices by putting it on the back of the tablet. Development of the new iPad Pro is still at an early stage and the company’s plans may change or be canceled before the launch in 2022, sources told the publication.
Apple is also working on a slimmer version of the basic iPad model for students. It is planned to be released at the end of 2021, as well as the new iPad mini.
An Apple spokesperson declined to comment. According to the publication’s sources, the company is also exploring alternative wireless charging methods that can work over long distances.
