A TV with a built-in Alexa voice assistant will be released in October 2021, sources say.
Work on the launch in the United States was carried out for almost two years, teams from Amazon Devices and Lab126 participated in it, sources close to the development told Insider. An Amazon spokesperson declined to comment.
The TVs will be equipped with the Alexa voice assistant. They are developed and produced by third-party companies, for example, the Chinese manufacturer TCL, which made televisions for Alcatel and Samsung, one of the sources said. It is expected that the TVs will have a diagonal of 55-75 inches.
Another source said that Amazon is also working on a separate TV of its own design.
At the end of 2020, the company has already launched AmazonBasics TV in India. These are third-party TVs (for example, Toshiba), but with embedded software from Amazon. In India, the 55-inch version costs $588.
In 2018, Amazon released a microwave oven, an amplifier and a subwoofer with Alexa. The company wanted to increase the popularity of the assistant through home appliances, the publication reports. But sources close to the company say that Alexa is still mainly used for simple functions to turn on music or find out the time.
